As COVID-19 continues to have and make an economic impact, we wanted to share some general guidance in reference to evictions since this has become a central point for millions nationwide and some protections have expired or expire soon.

Firstly, there are legal steps that must be taken for a legal eviction to take place. “Self-help” evictions are illegal!!
For a tenant to be removed, a court order is required.
However there may be possible defenses for tenants either on the procedural side or substantive.
As for eviction protections, at the federal level, the CARES Act enacted a 120-day moratorium on federally-backed housing. More information can be found at:
